Zakynthos: Shipwreck Beach with Blue Caves Land & Sea Tour

About This Experience

This is the trip most people mean when they say they "did the Shipwreck and the Blue Caves", and with more than 5,700 reviews it is the most-booked excursion on Zakynthos. It is a land-and-sea day: a minibus collects you, climbs to Bochali above Zakynthos Town, stops at Xigia's sulphur beach and Makris Gialos, and walks you the five minutes to the clifftop platform above Navagio for the famous overhead photograph.

The second half is the boat. From the harbour near Anafonitria a glass-bottom boat or speedboat (the boat ticket is paid in cash on the day) heads first to the wreck for photographs from the water, then along the coast into the Blue Caves, where the light reflects off the pale limestone seabed and turns everything blue. You can jump in from the boat here, and again at White Beach, where the boat leaves you for about an hour. Maravelia Cave, Sfogio and the Heart Cave are on the same run.

The day finishes inland, through Maries, Loucha and Exo Chora and past the 2,000-year-old olive tree, before the minibus drops you back. It is long — eight to nine hours, a good deal of it in the vehicle — but it is the only format that gives you the wreck from above and from the water in one day, and it removes the car problem entirely.

• The boat ticket is not in the booking price and is cash-only on the day
