The Experience

Why the Porto Vromi Cruise Is the Most-Reviewed Boat Trip

Three hours, three swim stops, the wreck from the water and the west-coast caves — the shortest crossing to Navagio on the island, at the lowest shared-boat price.

Highlights

  • Three swim stops in turquoise water beneath the west-coast cliffs
  • The Panagiotis wreck at Navagio, photographed from the boat
  • The west-coast caves — Hidden Treasure Cave, the Heart Cave and the Porto Vromi blue caves
  • White Beach, Sfogio and Porto Steniti on the same run
  • Pass the Poseidon's Profile rock formation

What's Included

  • Three swim stops
  • Experienced crew and skipper
  • Optional transfer from a set meeting point at extra cost

How to Pick a Zakynthos Boat Trip

Four decisions, in the order they matter.

  1. North or South?

North means the Blue Caves and Shipwreck Beach from Agios Nikolaos or Porto Vromi. South means the Keri Caves, the Mizithres stacks and Turtle Island from Laganas and Agios Sostis. No boat does both.

  2. Boat-Only or Land & Sea?

A boat-only trip is two to four hours from a harbour you drive to. A land-and-sea day adds hotel pickup and the clifftop viewpoints and takes eight to nine hours.

  3. Speedboat, Glass-Bottom or Big Boat?

Speedboats and small boats sail into the caves; glass-bottom boats are the steady family option; the 60-seat boats are cheapest and have a toilet, but stop at the cave mouths.

  4. Shared or Private?

Private charters are priced per boat, not per person — from about $146 for a licence-free self-drive to $233 with a skipper. Split between four or six people the gap to a shared seat shrinks fast.

The Breakdown

The Best Boat Tour on Zakynthos, by Format

One pick per format, the reason it wins, and the coast it belongs to — followed by every trip we cover in one table.

“Best boat tour” is the wrong question on Zakynthos until you have answered a simpler one: which coast? The island’s boat trips belong to two clusters that never overlap — the Blue Caves and Shipwreck Beach in the north, the Keri Caves and Turtle Island in the south — and within each, the format matters more than the operator. Below is one pick per format, with the coast it belongs to and the trade-off the listing leaves out. The full north vs south comparison goes deeper on the coast decision itself.

Best boat-only cruise: Porto Vromi to the wreck

Porto Vromi: Shipwreck, Caves, & White Beach Swimming Cruise$35, 4.5 from 2,309 reviews — is the most-reviewed pure boat trip on the island, and the one we feature on this page. Porto Vromi Maries sits on the west coast almost opposite Navagio, so the crossing is short and the three hours go on three swim stops: the west-coast caves, Sfogio, White Beach and Porto Steniti, with Poseidon’s Profile at the end. What it does not do is reach the northern Blue Caves, and Porto Vromi is an hour’s drive from the southern resorts with no bus. Our breakdown →

Best north-coast cave cruise

Zakynthos: Blue Caves and Navagio Bay Swim Cruise$41, 4.7 from 604 reviews — from Agios Nikolaos: about two and a half hours on a boat small enough to sail into the arches, with the wreck from the water and swims at Agios Andreas Bay and inside the caves. Our breakdown → The rest of the northern lineup is on the Blue Caves tours page.

Best south-coast turtle cruise

Zakynthos: Turtles, Marathonisi & Keri Caves Speedboat Tour$32, 4.6 from 3,297 reviews — is the southern equivalent of the big northern combo. Pickup, then three hours by speedboat from Agios Sostis: into the Keri caves, a swim at Marathonisi, Cameo islet and the private beaches, with loggerhead turtles surfacing in the bay along the way. Our breakdown → The Keri Caves tours page and the Turtle Island + Keri Caves tours page cover the alternatives.

Best land-and-sea day

Zakynthos: Shipwreck Beach with Blue Caves Land & Sea Tour$47, 4.9 from 5,720 reviews — the most-reviewed experience on the island, and the only format that gets you the clifftop view of Navagio and the water-level one on the same day. Hotel pickup, Bochali, Xigia, the viewpoint, then the boat. Eight to nine hours. Our breakdown → The value version at $37 and the small-group version are compared on the Shipwreck Beach + Blue Caves tours page.

Best glass-bottom boat

Two, one per coast. North: Zakynthos: Glass-Bottom Boat to Navagio, Caves & White Beach at $29 (4.6, 278 reviews), with pickup and the viewpoint — the cheapest trip we list. South: Zakynthos: Turtles, Marathonisi & Keri Caves Glass-Bottom Boat Tour at $32 (4.4, 2,907 reviews), three hours from Laganas past Cameo, the Keri cave and Marathonisi. The steady hull is the point; the glass floor is a bonus over the shallows. Our breakdown →

Best speedboat

The Zante Mare trip above is the speedboat pick in the south. In the north it is Zakynthos: Shipwreck & Blue Caves Max 10 guests at $47 (5.0, 417 reviews), a semi-private day with a speedboat leg from Porto Vromi. Our breakdown → Speedboats get furthest into the caves and are also the bumpiest and least shaded — not the choice for anyone prone to seasickness.

Best sunset cruise

The sunset trips run to the Mizithres stacks off Cape Keri in the south-west. Zakynthos: Mizithres Sunset Cruise with Swimming & Turtles at $44 (4.5, 145 reviews) and Zakynthos Speedboat Sunset Cruise: Caves & Free Wine at $35 (4.7, 69 reviews) are boats. One caution: the most-reviewed “sunset tour” in the catalogue, Zakynthos: Romantic Sunset Tour to Mizithres and Agalas Cave at $53 (4.7, 557 reviews), is a minivan tour to the Mizithres viewpoint and the Damianos cave at Agalas — a good evening, but not a boat. Our breakdown →

Best private and self-drive

With a skipper: Zakynthos: Shipwreck & Caves Private Boat Tour with Skipper$233 for the boat, up to six, 4.8 from 241 reviews — about two hours from Porto Vromi Anafonitria. Our breakdown → Self-drive, no licence: Zakynthos: Private Self-Drive Speedboat Rental No Licence$146 for the boat, up to four, 4.9 from 97 reviews — from Agios Sostis in the south. Our breakdown → The private boat tours page sorts the charters by coast and by whether you drive.

"It was amazing. There were few people on board, and that made us very happy because we could fully enjoy all the views."

"well-organized excursion, courteous and helpful crew, safe trip"

Alfredo Italy

"I had an amazing cruise with absolutely stunning views. The waters were crystal clear, and safety was clearly a top priority throughout the trip. The captain, Dionisis, was funny, kind, and incredibly supportive — especially since I don’t feel comfortable swimming in deep waters. He helped me feel relaxed and enjoy the experience. The scenery was breathtaking: huge rocks plunging into the sea, and Navagio Beach was truly impressive. We visited many beautiful spots and stayed long enough at each one to really take in the surroundings. Make sure to book this cruise — it’s totally worth it."

"Such a great tour of the north part of the island, would highly recommend!"

"We had a great time. We chose the 9 a.m. tour to avoid the heat, and we were lucky in that respect. However, it might have been better to start an hour later because of the colors, as the sun was obscured for a long time by the high cliffs, so the shades of blue were not always as vivid. But this is absolutely a factor beyond the organizer's control; it's more of a tip for other travelers. We fit comfortably on the boat; there were about 20 of us traveling. When booking, it is worth considering that the boat does not dock directly on the shore at any of the beaches; you can swim to them, but you can ask for a life jacket if you are not a strong swimmer. The captain was experienced and helpful. The road leading to the port is paved with asphalt all the way, although it is quite winding, and the last few hundred meters are very steep."

"I booked the activity for 11:00 AM. The Haven wasn't crowded yet, and we enjoyed a nice and relaxed atmosphere. The cruise tour was fantastic. We sat upstairs and were able to take the beautiful photos. The captain took us as close as possible to the hot spots and gave us time for photos or swimming. An unforgettable excursion, simply fantastic. I would definitely do it again."

Irina Germany

"Fantastic experience! The cruise was really beautiful, with breathtaking landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and stops in spectacular places. The crew was friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was really pleasant. A perfect way to discover the wonders of Zakynthos and enjoy a day at sea. Absolutely recommended!"
